No big deal. Walk into a club. Pretend to be gay. Dance. Flirt. Secretly get evidence to shut the place down. The perfect plan. Until I saw him.

Reporter Kevin Price has a knack for tripping over his own feet. And everyone else's. He's in over his head undercover at the Haven, a swanky gay sex club, determined to find out why members of the club keep vanishing. Five minutes inside and he can no longer deny the truth about his sexuality. He turns to the one man he can't get out of his head, the sexy ex-cop handling security. Too bad Kevin doesn't trust cops. Not since the only night he let himself be with another man.

Walter Simon doesn't do the club scene anymore. Not since he found love and lost it. That doesn't mean he'll let anyone hurt more innocent gay men. Even if that means going head-to-head with the klutzy, closeted, much-younger reporter. Kevin has information about the disappearances. Better to keep him close. And safe.

Neither is at the club to hook up or fall in love. Now they must work together amid their growing passion in order to uncover the truth before more men disappear.

How to Save a Life features Walter Simon, a secondary character from MORE, but can be read as a stand-alone story. This book contains explicit sexual content and graphic language.

This is a pretty decent book but there are a few scenes that were a little hard to imagine. The setting is an odd sex- and social club where people go to socialize and sometimes hook up. People are starting to turn up missing, and two people are independently investigating; they soon get together and work together. It is set in a generic city somewhere; I don't think a specific location is ever identified.

It is suspenseful and overall works pretty well; there are no obvious problems with the narrative that I noticed. It held my interest; I'll probably read the sequel.

How to Save a Life The Haven Book 1 edition by Sloan Parker Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

How to Save a Life was a great story!! I have read many books from Sloan Parker and I am never disappointed. Walter and Kevin were great characters flawed and all. Kevin being so clumsy was endearing and there was just something about Walter that was so intense but incredibly sexy. This book has everything romance, action and suspense. The sexual and intimate part of the relationship was a bulid up which just added to the intensity of their realtionship. It was not predictable like some suspense books can be. I love seeing the guys from More again. I am hoping there is much more in this series. There are some secondary characters that I would love to see a story built on. I highly recommend this book as well as other Sloan Parker books. You don't need to read More before this book but there is some references from that book in this one.
At first, I didn't realize that How to Save a Life was connected to the More Series, but I was delighted when I recognized a few of the characters. I won't recap the book for you, but I will say, that writing a romantic suspense, let alone one that is M/M, is no easy feat. But Ms. Parker did a fantastic job of keeping the drama high without it being over the top or ridiculous. It was fast paced, funny at times, and adorable. Yet it was intense, dark, and scary as well. Everything you want in a suspense, plus a couple of smoking hot guys.
Perfect.
What an amazing double story
Both a detective story and a romance

One these are books that are hard to put down and which you don't want to finish

Real likeable and relatable characters.
Once you finish you immediately want to read more about them

Keep it coming

And did I mention the amazing switch sex?
I really liked Kevin. He was smart and sweet and awkward and nervous, yet I found him incredibly brave. And how can you not love a guy that continuously trips over nothing and slams into things? I do love a klutz! To me that made him...sweeter or more real, I know lots of people found it annoying, but I liked him.
Walter...he only pissed me off on occasion. Overall, I really liked him.
As far as the whole abduction story line goes, I was feeling it maybe the first two mentions of it (our psycho is crazy) but after that I wasn't really feeling it at all, I mean for all I cared they could have been investigating the great tomato theft of 2013. Well, maybe that's not true. The abductions relate to each of them for different reasons and getting to their past and their motivations for helping was important and I really liked that part of getting to know them and their little moments of sharing. However, I felt the Protector was...well...skim-worthy. Sorry.
Would recommend for the relationship. Would read more from this author.
Kevin Price is a reporter, who has been running away from who he really since a tragic incident during college. However, he has to face that past and his secrets for a story he's decided to take on with The Haven, which played a role in Sloan Parker's book "More", this time, Kevin has reason to believe young men have been targeted and disappearing from the club. His original intent is to write an expose on the club to warn people about the club being dangerous, but even he could not expect the effect going to the club will have on him, nor meeting Walter.

Walter is a former cop who now runs a private security company and his company does the security for Haven, he is friends with the club owner and he first meets Kevin when he is called in by the owner to look into a missing young man. Due to his own heartbreak, Walter keeps trying to keep his distance from Kevin, but upon discovering Kevin is a reporter, not just a new club member, they choose to work together instead of against one another.

The more they learn about this case, the harder it is to remain neutral and unaffected by each other, and the less Kevin wants to run from himself. Walter is concerned about their age difference, Kevin does not see it as an issue since no one has affected him as much as Walter has.

This book is part mystery, part thriller/suspense as well as a romance. It was very hard to put down and as it got closer to the end, had it been a movie, I would have been on the edge of my seat! I hope there are more books to come where we get to know more about the supporting characters that were key to this story along with the opportunity to visit again with Kevin and Walter.

I highly recommend this story!
Just finished this again for the 2nd time (in the wee hours of the morning), and loved it enough to stay up a little longer to write a review. Quite frankly, forgot I'd already owned it when I purchased it again with a new cover (thankfully, for free). I realized right away that I'd read this story but thought 'what the hay?' and could.not.put.it.down...again. Should have remembered that from the 1st read. You'll love Walter, Kevin is adorkable, and they are absolute perfection together. The mystery surrounding The Haven is also worth the read. Supporting cast of characters, including brief visits from the MCs from the More series, all add to the depth and enjoyment of this story. Can't wait to read the 2nd Haven book, whenever it comes out. Also have to mention that More was also a good story, and I'm generally not a fan of menage stories-- looking forward to digging into book 2 of that series, which is out.

Really enjoy this author's writing style, humor, dialog, etc etc.
Highly recommend.
